Martial Arts Master Instructs Children on Karate, Life

....Focus and self-control are just two of the principles that Mr. Lewis has spent 45 years teaching his students. Mr. Lewis grew up in the Red Hook Houses, and aside from a five-year stint in Park Slope, his schools have always been located on Fulton Street in Clinton Hill. While he instructs students of all different ages and backgrounds, Mr. Lewis said that he feels especially compelled to act as a strong male role model for young African American boys who are growing up in fatherless homes.

“We lose so many young people to the penitentiary or to the cemetery based on the fact there is really no father or male image in their lives,” Mr. Lewis said. (READ THE ARTICLE)
