Sammy Becket
and Sal Bauta
HILL CAFE
The newly-renovated Hill Cafe opened in December of 2010. Sammy Becket and Sal Bauta, the owners of what was formerly Kush Cafe, a popular neighborhood restaurant with a French-influenced menu, decided to make the shift to a healthier menu with an American influence, as well as the French. The new Hill Cafe menu has an emphasis on small tapas plates, and also includes draft beers and a new list of cocktails.
In addition to the menu changes, Sammy and Sal, who have been partners for six and a half years, have remodeled the place. The most notable change – the revamping of the backyard. Says Sammy, “It looks like a German beer hall with big benches, and we also have a fire pit. It seats up to 40 people, and there is a special backyard menu.”
Sammy appreciates the increased promotion that comes with FAB Fridays. So far, Hill’s offerings have included tapas and drink specials. In the coming months, they anticipate livening things up with Jazz performances.

Sammy also looks forward to the transformation that will arrive at Hill’s doorstep in the form of the pedestrian plaza at the Putnam Triangle. “Putnam Triangle will be a great place for people to gather,” Sammy says.“There are lots of families, and it will be good for the neighborhood and good for business.”
