Once again, September is swinging -- every Friday evening throughout the month, thanks to the prolific musicians from Brooklyn Music School (BMS)! These talented teachers know how to jam -- and you can join them, at these lively street jazz sessions, free and open to all. No instrument? No problem -- just pull up a chair and enjoy the show! You can even grab dinner to go from a FAB restaurant nearby and bring it to the plaza!
Our weekly happy hour jazz series in Fowler Square continues with premier trumpeter Aaron Bahr. A California Bay Area native, Aaron attended Berklee College of Music on a full-ride: the prestigious Jimmy Lyons Scholarship. He also holds an M.M. in jazz composition from the New England Conservatory. Since moving to NYC in 2015, Aaron has performed regularly with some of the best musicians in jazz, including Dave Liebman, Fukushi Tainaka, and Don Hahn. He is currently a member of the jazz quintet Groove Merchant.
On faculty at Brooklyn Music School, Aaron is in the Brass department and teaches piano as well. Of his experience as a teacher, Aaron’s philosophy of music education revolves around a balance between two questions: “what does the student want to know?” and “what does the student need to know?” If you've got some musical chops, come sit in with Aaron on Friday, September 20 at 5:30 pm!
The BMS jazz music series is presented in partnership with Brooklyn Music School, a cultural district community institution since 1912. Learn more about their programs and classes on their website: www.brooklynmusicschool.org.
